Obituary for Betty Jo Zabrusky

Betty Jo (Ward) Zabrusky passed away on January 24, 2019, in Cañon City, Colorado at the age of 86.
Betty Jo was a Christmas baby born in Cañon City in 1932 to Harold and Verda (Knight) Ward. She was a lifelong resident like her father. She married Bunky Zabrusky on September 9, 1950 in Raton, New Mexico. Betty Jo was a home-maker and avid amateur baker. She helped run Nettie’s Candy Shop in Craddock Plaza for several years. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a warm and loving person, whose door was always open, and whose kitchen always contained freshly baked cookies.
She is survived by her children Kathy Humphrey, Kris (Tim) Zabrusky and Ken (Brinda) Zabrusky; grandchildren Michael, Carrie, Scott, and Kelsey; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family members.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bernard “Bunky” Zabrusky; and sister, Carol Jean Yarberry.
Graveside service, 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at Lakeside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to a charity of your choice in Betty Jo’s name; she loved food and cooking. Food pantries or other community food services are suggested. The family would also like to especially thank niece Pat McFarland for her loving care of Betty Jo, especially during our difficult time.
