Glada Marie (Benton) McDowell, age 77, of Canon City, CO went to be with our heavenly father February 13, 2013 at Skyline Ridge Nursing Home. She was born November 25, 1935 to Harry Winford and Myra Marie Benton and was raised by her “Mom”, Georgia Gierhart. She married Jerald Allen Mc Dowell on June 1, 1955.
Glada was the Sun who shined through the Clouds, and made sunshine out of a dreary day. She lived her life for her family and friends. Glada had a heart of Gold and will be greatly missed by all who ever knew her.
Glada is survived by her two sons, Robert “Bob” McDowell (friends Gina Trester and Grace McDowell) and Vernon (Trudy) McDowell; her daughter, Myra (Richard) Spry; grandchildren, Miranda (Alanzo) Quintana, Matthew (Nicole) McDowell, Aimee McDowell, Zachary McDowell, Kayla McDowell, Hunter Spry, and Tanner Spry; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Jim Gierhart; sisters-in-law, Kathy Benton, Carole (J.A.) Carmack, and Elaine (Ray) Nation; brothers-in-law, Buddy Ham and Gordon “Buck” McDowell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Edward Benton, Bob Gierhart, and Wayne Gierhart; sister, Josephine “Mug” Galbraith; brother-in-law, Ray Galbraith; and sisters-in-law, Marlene McDowell,and Shirley (McDowell) Ham.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Penrose Community Center Penrose, CO. Inurnment will be held privately with family at Beaver Park Cemetery at a later date.
