Obituary for Evelynn Marie McCutcheon

Evelynn Marie (Heffron) McCutcheon, 94, of Fruita, Colorado (formerly of Ponca City, Oklahoma & Canon City, Colorado), passed away June 2, 2016, in Grand Junction at Hope West Hospice. She was born August 22, 1921 in Winfield, Kansas, the oldest of four children born to Ford and Freda (Miller) Heffron. She attended Tannehill School and graduated from Winfield High School in 1939. She graduated from Beauty College in Arkansas City, Kansas in 1941.
She worked for Clay’s sewing shop in Ark City for nine years, Born Stone Company in Silverdale, Kansas for several years and Cessna Aircraft (Strother Field), retiring in 1982. She married Harley Pratt in 1941. They were married for 34 years and later divorced. She married Robert “Bob” McCutcheon in 1979 and he passed away in June 1983. One of her fondest memories was her 90th birthday celebration in 2011, she had over 130 family and friends come to help her celebrate her special birthday at the Ponca City Senior Citizens Center. She celebrated with her close family members that evening at a special dinner in honor. In June, 2013, she was guest of honor at a pinning ceremony and dinner in Winfield, Kansas where she was presented with her 60 year pin for Eastern Star by her grandson Lawrence. This was a special memory that she was very proud of. She enjoyed participating in many senior citizen dances in the Ponca City area, as well as making her potato necklaces and jewelry. She was recognized by RSVP for her many hours of volunteerism. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her great great grandchildren and her many friends in Oklahoma and Colorado. Other adventures she enjoyed were traveling in the motorhome with her grandson and his wife and family, as well as taking day trips around Colorado with her great grandson, Stephan, and his family. She enjoyed a wonderful family Christmas vacation to Florida in December, 2015, with her family, where she saw the Ocean and lots of other fun activities. She especially enjoyed her great granddaughter’s mini pig “Scarlett May”.
She is survived by her grandson, Lawrence Cowan and wife Tiffanny, of Fruita, Colorado; her great grandchildren, Stephan Cowan (Mari) of Florence, Colorado, Joseph M. Reisch of Parkerfield, Kansas; great granddaughter, Amber Cowan (Paul) of Vero Beach, Florida, Josiah Graves of Ark City, Kansas; great great grandchildren, Lawrence and Brooklinn Cowan of Florence, Colorado, Blake Cowan, of Vero Beach, Florida, Jasmine Graves-Vaught of Burdan, Kansas; daughter, Janice (Joe) Reisch, of Parkerfield, Kansas; granddaughter, Stephanie Shattuck, of Winfield, Kansas. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Darlene Dulaney, of Rock Springs, Wyoming; sister in law, Francis Heffron, of Winfield; several nieces and nephews, including Richard and Cindy Heffron of Belle Plaine, Kansas; special friends, Sylvia, Judy, Frances from Ponca City; MaryAlice from Salina, Kansas; her friends from the Royal Gorge Manor in Canon City, where she lived for two years, and from the Independence Village in Fruita, Colorado, where she lived for one year; special friends from Fruita, Colorado, Larry, Carolyn, Jane, and Bonnie
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ronald Heffron, in 2011, sister, Doris Long, in 2015, her granddaughter, Glenda D. Reisch, in 1966, and two special friends, Marvin Ryder, in 2003 and Don Colson, in 2011.
Funeral services were held at Holt Family Funeral Home in Canon City, Colorado, June 7, 2016. Per her request cremation has been affected after the service. Private family inurnment will be take place a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Hope West for their loving care.
