Wayne Dell was born March 1, 1949 the oldest child to Paul and Iola.
He was called to the Power Line in the sky, May 3, 2018.
Wayne was raised in Leadville, Co. with his parents and two sisters.
Wayne graduated from Leadville High School the class of 1967, where he spent an adventurous high school career defending his friend Eddy Thomas and working at all the gas stations. This is where his passion for cars and racing began, he raced for pink slips, and he generally won. He favored Mopar products in which his most loved vehicles were a 74 Ram-charger and a 67 Barracuda.
Wayne went to school in Denver, Co. at the Chrysler College for Mechanics. This is when he learned how long it would take him to drive to and from Leadville for the sheer pleasure of speed, and of course it also allowed him to spend more time with his family and the love of his life. The mountains were his passion, but he had many pastimes, speed being one, camping, four wheeling, fishing, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed creating haunted houses with his daughter and spending time with his son.
Wayne began working for the public service in Leadville as a lineman. During the time he was a lineman, he brought power to Leadville, CO by combining his passions with work. He used his skills of four wheeling to take a bucket truck up Mosquito pass backwards, he used snowmobiles to trace lines, he was dropped in by repelling from helicopters and used a mule train. This was all to develop and maintain power. He continued working for Public Service when he moved to Fruita, Co.
Wayne's life cannot be summed up on paper, or in a few words. Every person that he knew or met became part of his story, and had a story to tell.
Wayne was one of the last true Boy scouts, his morals and character set him above the rest. He touched hundreds of people through his life. He was an Eagle Scout and a Den leader. He lived his life with generosity, kindness, and strength. He was and always will be a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, son in law and friend.
Wayne lived life one day at a time, with love, surprise, and the promise of a better future. If Wayne was still here, he would say “it will be alright, God is watching out for all of us, however it is up to you to listen and take care of your own life, pay attention to details and you will make it work."
His strength and fierce love of family were the chains that held us together. When we lose the master link, we have to find a way to come together and support each other.

Wayne was my best friend and the love of my life. I know he will watch from a far, to give us all a little nudge every once in a while if we get lost, he will give us the strength we need. We will all be a little lost and lonely for a while, but given time we will recognize he has never left, he is just living in our hearts.
Wayne is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Colleen Dell; a son and daughter-in-law Ed and Pam Dell. A daughter and son-in-law Theada and Tom Bartel, sisters and brother-in-laws Wanda and Perry Ball and family, Vicki and Mike Flanders and family, Gayle and Dave Barkey and family, Adopted family Wayne Edward Thomas, Mary and Rich Clayton. Wayne is also survived by two granddaughters, bright stars in his night sky and the highlight of his days, Raven and Salem Godfrey. Now each of us carries a piece of the strongest, fullest heart, and we are left to share that legacy.
