Damon “Don” Chumbley, age 85, of Canon City, God reached down and took his hand and lead him to his final journey home on July 11, 2018.
He was born on January 18, 1933 in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Delbert and Ada (Plemmons) Chumbley.
From 1953-1959 Don served in the US Navy where he completed a tour of duty in Hawaii, aboard the USS Cormorant working as a minesweeper.
After the military, he worked for the California Department of Corrections for 7 years.
Moving to Canon City in 1977, he sold real estate for Glen Eller and Ernie Crossley. In 1978 he began working for Colorado Department of Corrections, (Centennial) retiring in 1998 after 20 years of service.
Don met his wife Rosa Chuck in Canon City, Colorado where they were happily married for forty years.
Don is survived by his wife, Rosa; brother, Glenn Chumbley; sons, Torrance (Carin), Brent (Rachel), Todd ( Christina ) Chumbley, Mark (Terri) Chuck; daughter, Jill (Harlan) Ottaway; grandsons, Brandon (Monica) Ottaway, Dylan Ottaway, Trevor Chumbley, Hunter Emmert, Joseph and Gunner Chumbley, Spencer and Brice Chuck; granddaughter, Abigail Chumbley; great-granddaughter, Paige Ottaway (due September 2018)along with numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends who are family, dear to our hearts.
Memorial service, 11 a.m. Friday July 27, 2018 at Wilson Memorial Chapel, 1449 S. 9th Street, Canon City, Colorado 81212.
