Obituary for Verna Pearl Cater

Verna Pearl Cater, 84, passed away on August 29, 2018. She was born on October 14, 1933 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Howard and Maxine (Wooten) Moon.
Verna grew up in Montrose Colorado. In 1950, Verna married Norman “Spec” Roy and they had two daughters, Diana and Vickie.
In 1962, Verna married Eugene Cater and from that marriage had two stepdaughters, Genalee and Nanette and stepson, Wesley.
She worked at J.C.Penny in Canon City in the 1960s. Verna was also a waitress at many restaurants throughout her life. She loved waiting tables and had such fond memories of coworkers and patrons. Verna loved reminiscing about those days of old.
Some of the places she worked were Sali’s Paradise, The Shanty Café, Merlino’s Belvedere, and the Rib House.
While living in Pagosa Springs for a couple of years she managed the Pagosa Hot Springs Hotel and also worked at Jan’s Café.
Verna loved to dance and loved listening to Elvis Presley. You could always find her on the dance floor. She loved to joke around with everyone and always had a smile on her face. She loved her family more than anything in her life. She truly cherished her family especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Verna is survived by her daughters, Diana Globoker of Spearfish, South Dakota and Vickie (Mike) Butts of Canon City, Colorado; step-daughters, Genalee (Jake) Mouriquand of Canon City, Nanette (Doug) Evan of Colorado Springs; sister, Mary Ellen Coffee of Montrose, Colorado; grandchildren, John Lee (Christina) Globoker, Byron Center of Michigan, Christine (Eric)Wysock of Loveland, Patricia (Jeremy)Dunn Grand Ridge, Texas, Brian (Trisha) Konty of Canon City, Richard (Beth) Mouriquand of Canon City, Angie Manney and Jermmiah Evan of Colorado Springs; great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Tyler Konty, Hope and Christopher Globoker, River and Winter Wysock. Kylie and Jaeger Dunn; nieces, Adele (Bill) Frangos, Roanna Griffin; and nephew, Mauri Dolan.
She was preceded in death by grandson, Billy J. Sexton III; stepson, Wesley Cater; niece, Raonna Spaulding; and great-niece, Danielle Spalding.
At Verna’s request no services will be held.
Donations can be made in her memory to Canon City High School music department or Meals on Wheels.
